The Trane High Efficiency XR13 air conditioner is an excellent choice for those who live in moderate climates. Its efficiency is 14 which is perfect for moderate climates in which air conditioning does not need to be used at all times. It costs much less than the higher SEER models which are needed in hot climates. This central air unit costs between $1269 and $1659.
Air Filter
This unit not only cools air, but also cleans it. It uses an air filtration system known as Trane CleanEffects which removes pollen, dust, and other allergens from the air. As a matter of fact, this filter system is eight times more effective than a standard Hepa filter and has been proven to remove 99.98% of allergens from the air without reducing the air flow like most air conditioner filters do. Also, it is very energy efficient which lowers your cost of cooling.
Noise Reduction
Trane offers a sound insulator as an option on this unit. If you spend a lot of time outside, this might be a good feature for you. Though the Trane unit doesn’t make more noise than other systems, it will run very quietly using the sound insulation so that your outdoor activities won’t be interrupted by annoying air conditioner noise.
The Coil
The Trane XR13 is also fitted with a Spine Fin outdoor coil which is protected inside a Quick-Sess cabinet. The coil is composed of thousands of bound aluminum tubes which wrap around a cylinder. It has 90% less brazed joints than a standard coil and has unique transition joints which diminish leaks. Due to the use of aluminum, this outdoor coil corrodes much less easily than most other brands.
The Base Pan
An additional feature of the XR13 is the DuraTuff base pan. It has been engineered with a composite material and an extra supportive design. The material is able to survive in 135 degree temperatures for twenty years and will not rust, corrode, warp or crack. The base pan can withstand a force of up to 800 pounds so it is more than sufficient for this unit. On an external note, the color of the base pan is molded in and will not fade over time.
The Compressor
Another component of the XR13 is the Cimatuff Compressor. This compressor is what moves the air through the machine and into your house. The frame is composed of all aluminum which is lightweight. Many of the internal elements are also aluminum. This aluminum disperses heat produced by the machine into the atmosphere instead of becoming extremely hot like many other metals. This allows the compressor to both run efficiently and to hold up well over time.
Unit Protection
This unit also includes a specially designed powder paint which has been baked on. This paint not only gives the unit an attractive glossy finish, but also resists rust. Screws are coated with ceramic in order to avoid rust where they occur and the whole unit is coated in the paint in order to protect the coil from the elements. The fact that the paint is baked on produces a chemical bond much stronger than if it were merely painted. The powder paint insures that the edges will be smooth, not sharp as are found in some liquid painted units.
The outside of the Trane XR13 is composed of galvanized untreated steel, which is pretreated with zinc phosphate to prevent corrosion before the paint is applied. The steel provides a very strong casing for the unit.
Warranty
The purchase of a Trane XR13 unit also insures you one of the best limited warranties in the business. The warranty includes five years on the internal functional parts of the main system, outdoor coil, and the compressor. There is also a one year warranty on the internal functional parts of the coil itself.
The Trane XR13 Central Air Conditioner
This air conditioner is a high quality unit of well-engineered construction. If you live in a moderate to cool climate, it is hard to beat for the price. When shopping for a new air conditioning unit, the Trane XR13 should be one to seriously consider.
